Fireguard

Fireguard is a calcium silicate building board which provides high performance, fully certified encasement for the fire protection of structural steel columns and beams.

Superior Attributes
  • CE marked to EN 15283-1
  • Euroclass A1 Non-combustible reaction to fire EN 13501-1
  • Tested to EN 13381-4
  • Fire resistance R15 – R300 solutions
  • Weather durable during construction phase
  • Mould / fungal growth resistant
  • Easy to cut and screw fix
  • Full compliance with Eurocode design methods
Key Applications
  • Passive fire protection for structural steel

Fireguard is an A1 Non-combustible asbestos free calcium silicate core building board produced by a technique of lamination and controlled drying. Available in 12.7mm and 18mm thicknesses, each side of the board is faced with a layer of reinforcing mat.

The Fireguard boards are screw fixed to light gauge steel channels which are fixed back to the structural steel. Boards can be added in layers to create the correct thickness of passive fire protection required to achieve the desired period of fire resistance.

Because Resistant Building Products have in house technical expertise and landed stock on the ground we can turnaround project information quickly, provide cost certainty and get your project moving forward without long lead ins and potential material shipping delays.

In order for us to advise thickness of Fireguard required for your project we need to know all the following information:

  • What is the timed period of fire resistance required (e.g. 30/6/90/120mins, etc.)?
  • What is the steel critical temperature limit? Typically, 550°C but can vary higher or lower.
  • What size are the steel beams and columns?
  • What is the mass of the steel beams and columns?
  • How many sides of the steel beams and columns are exposed & required to be protected – 1,2,3 or 4 sides?
  • Are the beams standard “I” sections?
  • Are the columns standard “UC” (universal column) sections? Are any of the beams cellular (FABSEC)?”

  • What board thickness do I need to achieve desired fire resistance?

As per information in paragraphs above. We need answers to all the above questions regarding size and type of structural steel so that we can calculate the appropriate board solution for your project.
  • Can Fireguard be smoothly finished with other materials?

Yes, once Fireguard compound has been applied to all joints and screw heads, Fireguard can be plastered without need for a primer coat.
  • Can Fireguard be used externally ?

Fireguard is for internal use but suitably weather resistant to exposure during theconstruction phase.
