Fireguard is an A1 Non-combustible asbestos free calcium silicate core building board produced by a technique of lamination and controlled drying. Available in 12.7mm and 18mm thicknesses, each side of the board is faced with a layer of reinforcing mat.
The Fireguard boards are screw fixed to light gauge steel channels which are fixed back to the structural steel. Boards can be added in layers to create the correct thickness of passive fire protection required to achieve the desired period of fire resistance.
Because Resistant Building Products have in house technical expertise and landed stock on the ground we can turnaround project information quickly, provide cost certainty and get your project moving forward without long lead ins and potential material shipping delays.
In order for us to advise thickness of Fireguard required for your project we need to know all the following information:
- What is the timed period of fire resistance required (e.g. 30/6/90/120mins, etc.)?
- What is the steel critical temperature limit? Typically, 550°C but can vary higher or lower.
- What size are the steel beams and columns?
- What is the mass of the steel beams and columns?
- How many sides of the steel beams and columns are exposed & required to be protected – 1,2,3 or 4 sides?
- Are the beams standard “I” sections?
- Are the columns standard “UC” (universal column) sections? Are any of the beams cellular (FABSEC)?”
